You can get pikachu as starter by talk and cancer the 3 pokeballs, and then talk with pokeball in the back.

I believe it is hard and final. I've never heard of an exception being made, they are essentially two different save files. Hi there, as Nightjay said, it is about problem of technical side, so it cannot have exception. Sorry for your inconvience.
