Bad options. Should be 30 at least. But I guess my vote then goes for 20.

If somebody actually doesn't understand why team preview is a necessity feel free to pm me i'll cover it for you. Obviously +1

In my opinion, team preview is not bad. It's just different. I think the metagame on PRO is fine without team preview, and kinda unique. That's why I don't really want this mechanic to be implemented. But I clearly understand why a lot of ppl want to add this feature. The only point I disagree is that the PvP is not or less competitive without team preview. Cheers! Except you clearly do not understand why people want this feature, as you so kindly pointed out with: "The only point I disagree is that the PvP is not or less competitive without team preview."

Not a single person who opposes the idea has any sort of real argument against it. "It would be like showdown" is not an argument. PRO is an mmo, an mmo needs endgame. While that for some is collecting, beating bosses and so on, for many it's pvp. In it's current state PvP is garbage due to no team preview. Fixing your endgame in an mmo feels like it'd be pretty important. Being against fixing an mmo's endgame simply cause you're allowed to have an opinion (Seems like a lot of people are against it just because) or "because it'd be too much like x" is dumb.

You must be fun at parties. "It's ment to be COMPETITIVE not "fun surprises" > I don't get it. Surprises doesn't mean uncompetitive. When someone uses a move you didn't expect, it's a surprise, right? When someone set-up when you expected a switch, it's a surprise, right? "You have a casual , none-ranked ladder if you do not wish to be competitive. You are completely ignorant to how competitive pokemon works if you for a second think no team preview is better, this isn't a case of opinion." > Team viewer is not better or worst, it's just different. Please respect other ppl, it's a case of opinion. "When it's impossible to know what threats or walls your opponent has in the back, your play becomes guesswork. You have nothing to base your sacrifice decisions off of, you have no way of knowing which wall of yours is important and which is expendable etc." > With team viewer you don't know what threats or walls your opponent before the battle start, so it's just a question of building a good team in my opinion. TL;DR : Metagame with team preview is not better or worst than metagame without it, it's just different. You don't have to tell ppl they're bad at PvP if they don't agree with you. It's clear you have no clue of competitive battling. Voicing your opinion is fine, sure, but when you're this ignorant on the topic it only makes you look stupid. I would stop embarrassing myself if I were you. >>I don't get it. Surprises doesn't mean uncompetitive. When someone uses a move you didn't expect, it's a surprise, right? When someone set-up when you expected a switch, it's a surprise, right? No. It's hilarious how dense this argument even is. Pokemon have access to exactly 4 moves, and some and some are much more common and ran more than others. Sacrificing one of the "standard" moves for a surprise is indeed a thing, but when doing this you sacrifice something else. This is taken into account when you build your team and decide on your sets; With team preview you can see what kind of team your opponent has and make an educated guess on what set your opponent is running. Oh my opponent has no stealth rock setter, except for ferrothorn? It probaby runs rocks. The "Surprise" that i (and others who get this;) am referring to is something more like: We are left in a 3v3 situation. I have a talonflame, gengar and scarfed excadrill left. Talonflame is on the field, he has a arcanine on the field. I don't know his remainder pokemon. How do you proceed? do you swords dance with talon? He might have a wall left. Do i switch into excadrill and earthquake, locking myself into it? he might have a flying type / levitater in the back. I'm not gonna write this scenario out but you should catch the point. It's a complete coin toss based on nothing what your play should be, whereas if you knew he has a magnezone and a chandelure in the back, you'd just sac off talon and proceed to win with exca EQs. If someone manages to setup on you when you expect a switch, you better have a backup plan; Either this or you simply got outplayed. Completely irrelevant to the topic and poor example. >> Team viewer is not better or worst, it's just different. Please respect other ppl, it's a case of opinion. False. For competitive purposes, it's for the better. Even if the sun was blue "in your opinion", it doesn't make it true. Sorry. >>With team viewer you don't know what threats or walls your opponent before the battle start, so it's just a question of building a good team in my opinion. Ofcourse you don't know that, but that's not the point at all. I don't know wether you're just missing the point super hard here, but it's clear you should probably stop commenting on this matter. Edit: For the record i'm quite the party monster bruh

Team preview is absolutely essential. It can't be stressed enough how much of a fundamental part it is in competitive pokemon. For anyone making the argument of "Oh it ruins the surprise", well, the surprise was never ment to be there to begin with. It's ment to be COMPETITIVE not "fun surprises". You have a casual , none-ranked ladder if you do not wish to be competitive. You are completely ignorant to how competitive pokemon works if you for a second think no team preview is better, this isn't a case of opinion. When it's impossible to know what threats or walls your opponent has in the back, your play becomes guesswork. You have nothing to base your sacrifice decisions off of, you have no way of knowing which wall of yours is important and which is expendable etc. The list goes on, i could literally write a book on this. BAD FOR THE META: I also believe this is why the meta tends to be extremely stally and slow on PRO (This is definitely the trend on higher ratings); You have no way of knowing what your opponent has, so you need to try and cover all of your bases with tanks and walls as best as you can to be successful. This is damaging to the meta and makes a lot of archetypes much less viable. As for "it's not possible to code" I highly doubt this is actually the case, it sounds more like a lazy excuse. I'm sure there's some kind of workaround or magic that could be done to implement it, even if it took a bit of work. If not, i'd like to hear from someone who'd know and give the technicalities. I really like PRO and pvp is my thing, and I hope this wont just get shrugged off as "yeah whatever maybe" cause it truly is a huge part of pvp.

Bump.

I can understand that the surprise effect can be fun for some, but in all honesty it does not belong in RATED Pvp, where the goal is to outplay, which simply isnt possible without the preview (at least to a much less extent). Maybe you could keep the none-team preview in none-rated battles for fun / surprise effect?

Sup folks. I have been into competitive pokemon for god knows how many years. Starting from Gen1 link cable battles with friends and later discovering smogon / showdown in gen4, I've always really enjoyed pokemon PvP. PRO is no different. Love the fact that there is a competitive ladder on PRO and that there are frequent pvp seasons, awarding the top rated players rewards. Amazing. However, one huge flaw decreasing skillcap greatly; Team Preview. Granted the title is self-explanatory, one HUGE part of competitive pokemon (Especially on a higher level) is, like most of you know, predicting. A core mechanic from PvP does not even exist on PRO due to lack of team preview. Don't get me wrong, if you're facing a Tyranitar with a Talonflame it's not a very hard call to switch out into your physical tank, even in PRO. The way pokemon works with checks and counters, some mons beat others, you need to be switching and predicting constantly. In team preview you can see things like how many physical tanks your opponent is running; Do I need to save my special attacker for these? Or can i play loosely with my special attack and give it up? Do I need to save my own physical tank for something specific? Things like this are crucial. In PRO,If say, you lose your only special attacker to something you think is a decent trade, but turns out your opponent had two physical tanks in the back, you would never have given up your special attacker since you obviously needed it for these, but you had no way of knowing and now lose by default. Team preview allows you to identify your win conditions and the important mons in your matchup which is a skill in itself, and now this doesnt even exist. However. If I knew what his physical tank was, I might not even click my stone edge on my Ttar, but switch into my gengar since I know his physical tank is a tangrowth, which i can deal a lot of damage to with my sludge bomb. But hey. He saw my team too. He knows about my gengar. He knows it's a very good matchup. Maybe he wont even go to his tangrowth, but over-predict and just go into starmie to have a good matchup vs. my gengar, while still being able to live a stone edge. This is just a very random example i thought up on the spot but my point is the same. Team preview adds a huge layer of mindgames and skill to PvP and I feel like it should be implemented in some way. Also picking a lead is a big part of pvp and now there is literally zero skill to choosing a lead but simply hoping for the best. Further some issues, some mons are just extremely risky to run in PRO meta with the lack of team preview, skarmory comes to mind, you have no way of knowing if you need to be looking out for a magnezone trap or not, making skarm extremely risky to run. It can be an amazing phys. tank and your only answear to a mon on your opponents team, but o look, he happens to run a magnezone. I now have no answears to X, guess i just lose by default. Oh hey did you just get your heatran hours? Caught and trained your heatran up? Ready to bust it out in pvp? Sweet. Time to get trapped by a dugtrio and lose your mon for free, seeing you had literally zero chance of knowing it was there, whereas with previews you would masterfully played around it. There are thousands of examples and points i could make here. But I think this is enough for now. My two cents. Discuss.

I support this idea.
