So it's really only available for starting with Pikachu. I've found Unknown Hat, fought with Ash at Viridian Forest and after that found him at Route 9 and he said that I didn't start the game with Pikachu so he will resolve his problem on his own. Imho there are too many advantages of starting with Pika - you can learn your Pikachu Surf, you don't need 100 lvl Pikachu to fight with Jessie and James and now this hat. What about other starters?

The unknown hat is the item you need to give Ash for him to give you back his own hat. But i've heard it's only Pikachu-starter-related though.. ;)

 

Sorry i've late posted the obvious now x) I just haven't seen there was already 3 pages for this thread :)

There seems to be quite a few items like this yet to be coded into the game; obtained by strange methods. Being useless currently, I would like to recommend you hang onto it until a later date where it may prove to be beneficial.

Possibly, but unlikely. I've fainted probably 150+ mankey and haven't found the hat so I gave up and went and just bought a green cap. :D

my Mankey just stole an "unknown Hat" from another Pokemon. Can anyone tell my what that item is or does. It has no description.
