"Team Preview" for a better PvP system.

I know there are some people suggested this before but no one talking about this seriously.

 

What is team preview?

Team preview was added in gen 5, It make you see each others' Pokemon at the beginning of a PvP battle.

PRO is based on 6th gen mechanics but we still dont have team preview for some reason.

 

How important team preview is?

As the topic said, Team Preview is one of the most important parts of a battle and I totally agree with it. Team preview will change a lot of things in PRO ranked.

 

-The best part of team preview is that you can know opponent play style. I found that rain and sand team was played a lot in PRO because those teams are really hard to deal if you are not prepared before. Choose a poke to sacrifice and choose a poke to save is the best way to win an offensive team like rain or sand in PRO but you can't do that correctly if you don't know which poke OP having.

 

-The most annoying thing in PRO- "Entry hazards". There are too much hazards pokemon in PRO and it's too easy to set up.Without team preview, some high defensive poke like Tyranitar or Donphan can easily counter some poke and set up entry hazards immediately.

 

- Setup pokemon. Talond, Bisharp, Crawdaunt, belly drum Azumarill... are really hard to deal poke if you let them setting up. I lost to lots of battle by just let it set up and can't do anything to stop them. It's not my bad when let it set up, it is just because I can't prepare for unknown poke might coming anytime and I might sac its counter already before OP showing it. Pokemon is a stragety game, surprise is one part of it but battles should not be won on just having the advantage of surprise.

 

-Stall pokemon. People can predict a switch but they can't predict a stall may coming and it is hard to deal sometime. That is why stall team was complained a lot in PRO.

 

-Trapping a pokemon without prepare, there are 2 common trapper are Magnezone and Dutrio (both are OU tier in smogon even with team preview). Shed Shell just got coded in PRO but from my opinion , it's not good at all, will you replace your holding item with it? shed shell skamory? shed shell Magnezone? I would play another poke than holding it. What happen if your poke got trapped? that's really bad when losing a pokemon for nothing and you can't predict that if you don't know OP having which pokemon.

 

- Saving OP team. Lots of ppl do that for every battles they found, There is around 100 pvp players in each sv but only around 20 active players whom pvp regularly. I wonder what kind of advantage is that? why ppl gain a really big advantage by just saving OP team everytime they met. Remember that pokemon is a strategy game.

 

My suggestion about team preview system:

First, I think it is easy for the coder to make and it is enough. Second, if you don't like "choose a lead" thing or it is too hard to code then ignore it :kiss:

OR showing OP team inspection at the battle begining no matter OP is in different PC or disable team inpection. That would be much easier :thanks:

+1 This will really help the pvp side of pro! Not only will it help us form strategies better but the change will surely attract more players to start pvping.

Nice idea and nice presentation. Your idea is really good but I disagree. With team previews, there will be no surprise. Switches and moves will be easy to predict. PVP will become very easy. So I disagree sorry (-1). Nice presentation, good luck.

It's not an idea. It's actually a mechanic that has been implemented since generation 5. I don't understand how the game can copy the handhelds so hard then ignore such an important mechanic. Regardless of what people think it should be in the game. Just like they banned Clefable + Softboiled and Poison Heal Gliscor + Defog.

Last option considered, the PRO chat displaying opponent's team, is very interesting.
