Many players have their own personal bank accounts, I see nothing wrong with it.

If you did EV train in the beginning stages of the game, I would make sure that it's a very nice stated pokemon, with a good nature. Also, EV training in the beginning is a nice way to build up that fortune you spoke of. A great way to get those extra potions / pokeballs later on.
