I am not sure about showdown, but in PRO it lose effect when you change from my knowledge. Different battle system comparing with showdown. ok so lets see if i got this right. If i have a pokemon with paton pass and i use buffs like dragon dance with that pokemon then using paton pass it give the dragon dance to the other poke? Yup ^^ that why we have baton pass
