  1. 289640 Not sure what you mean by "all the pokemons". There are just Gothitelle and Wobbuffet with Shadow Tag in PRO and Arena Trap doesn't work in PRO and is also not banned in OU on Smogon. I'd take making Shadow Tag pokemon useless over destroying fundamental game mechanics in the entire meta any day.

     

    Considering PRO's mostly stall meta and the lack of offensive items, Gothitelle is also a bigger threat than on Smogon aside from possible Choice item/trick shenanigans and you cannot even prepare for it since there is no team preview. You talk about PRO players just being concerned about getting to +6 with calm mind and sweeping a team. This was exactly why i mentioned the case with the Starmie. To illustrate that this is not the only thing it can do effectively. The rest of the reasons have already been brought up.

     

    Also, this was in relation to the staff saying that they are mostly following Smogon's rules. There have been countless of posts regarding Shadow Tag and not a single post on the new Baton Pass rule or any discussions. Still they just ban it with one line linking to Smogon which in the same way is not the same environment as PRO, as you brought up yourself, especially considering the lack of various items, moves and abilities abused with it.

     

    the example of Starmie was already fact before we have seen Gothitelle. Forretress as a rapid spinner or Scizor as one of the few defogger we currently have are trapped and killed by magnezone. If we get arena trap dugtrio has a 25% chance to OHKO tentacruel (with 220 def) after stealth rock. Skarmory or Empoleon (as potential defoger once we get defog tm) are trapped and 1HP'd/killed by magnezone. U can make the same case for entry hazard setters or that a dugtrio OHKO's your sun setter Ninetales or your electric absorber in your rain team or the electric type in your enemy team if your running a rain team or ...

    Just because a trapper is able to take out a key threat isnt IMO a reason to bann trapping. U bann/limit mechanics because they can be exploited. And Gothitelle is exploiting the fact that it can trapp and kill key threats while boosting two stats to +6 and recover all hp lost. And if u take away calm mind u make rest unreliable (with chesto berry it's a one time use) and it ends as a normal trapper trading 1 for 2 at max and 1 for 1 in 90% of cases and that's not overpowered or toxic.

    I can't quotes everyone's comments about Shadow Tag, because its just too much, you can search it on search bar about Shadow Tag and Gothitelle being banned, i found more than 100 post about that. Hopefully all quotes above is enough to make Shadow Tag banned from Ladder PvP.

    In my opinion, Shadow Tag should be banned, its not all about how many counters or weakness that this Pokemon has, because we battle not only using 1 vs 1 Pokemon, we battle with 6 vs 6 Pokemon, so this Pokemon weakness can be covered with other Pokemon, so yeah, dont talk about counters because every Pokemon has their own weakness.

    I will sum up in here why Shadow Tag should be banned because:

    1. This game lack of team preview. We don't have team preview which is making this Pokemon being unpredictable and yes this can give this Pokemon free win almost againts all spatck/ balance/ stall Pokemon.

    2. Since shadow tag prevent you from switching, well.. you cannot counter it and it demolish stall teams by getting +6 with Calm mind and before ripping the team apart.

    3. We don't have complete items, abilities, movesets also Pokemon yet. E.g. pursuit/ life orb/ etc, so hard to one-KO this Pokemon.

    4. Popular Pokemon Battle Simulator, Showdown, has their reason to ban this Pokemon, you can check it here: https://www.smogon.com/articles/ou-suspect-sableye-shadow-tag.

    5. Its just not fun spamming calm mind and rest, repeat it over and over again to buff and other side cant do anything about this, with more than 10-20 turns to set this buff.

    6. PvP become not competitive anymore because we allowed this broken ability in ladder

    7. Its not about banning Shadow Tag can change the meta of the game or systems or other reason, hopefully ladder tier is coming soon, so everyone who already has this Pokemon not becoming useless because they still can use this Pokemon in Uber tier.

     

    Anyways, this is just my opinion and reason about this ability. I'm sorry if i said something wrong, just wanna make PvP environment become competitive. Thank you ^^

     

    It's interesting how different the arguments are in smogon and PRO. Smogon has big concerns about the trickscarf set which cripples a lot of physical attackers and pokemons relying on setting up like clefable which would counter a calm mind goth with unaware (trickscarf isnt implemented in PRO). PRO players are concerned about the "getting to +6 with calm mind for free and sweeping the enemy afterwards" (PRO misses unaware and pursuit).

     

    Smogon also states that "Primarily, Gothitelle seems to be the only problem. Why ban an entire ability when it seems to have only one primary offender?" and that shadow tag and other trapping abilities (like arena trap) arent banned in every tier (e.g. little cup).

    ... This pokemon does not have to 1v6 the opponent's team to be highly effective.

     

    So i ask again, why not limit the movepool before banning an ability and make all the pokemons completely useless? Deny Gothitelle the moves it abuses (calm mind and in the future trick) and see if its still broken and if so there can be further actions but i heavily doubt the second

    thunder has a 70% accuracy and compound eyes increases accuracy by 30%

    0,7 * 1,3 = 0,91 -> 91 % accuracy therefore it has a 9% chance to miss

    can confirm. wouldnt mind losing the points, but the 45 min penalty is really annoying.

    if your in high rating the rating is important :Crazy:

    being 200 points above your enemy makes you lose alot of points but its more annoying that i cant grind my rating back for 45 mins

  5. another thing that can happen is your next pokemon gets switched out and switched in again while not attacking but taking the damage from the enemy

    Although i do agree that these suggestions can improve the PvP system, we must keep in mind that PRO isn't a battle simulator (and is not supposed to become one) like Showdown or Shoddybattle/PO/Netbattle used to be. So i don't think there will be any chat keeping track of a battle (yes, it may be annoying not to remember how many calm mind/dragon dance/whatever boosts are in play but even in the official 3DS games, we cannot keep track of our battles, it's only exclusive to battle simulators). However, a team preview should indeed be implemented for all the reasons above

    Imo the most important reason for a battle chat is that it could help to proof a bug or that some1 is breaking the rules. i already had the case that staff only warned a player because "breloom could have run effect spore and therefore 1 of your 2 pokemons could be sleeping"

    That's actually a pretty fair argument as I see most people complaining about shadow tag instead. However calm mind isn't banned in PRO. Shadow Tag is banned in literally almost every other Serious Pokemon PVP community, as well as swagger. Yet neither are banned in PRO.

    Calm mind is fine. Banning it would weaken too many pokemons. Try to think outside of the box. If a rule can be "shadow tag is banned" the rule could also be "pokemons with a trapping ability arent allowed to run boosting moves"

    Yes the mechanic is similar but it's not the same. No one is using Arena Trap because there is no good pokemon with that move. It doesn't trap flying/levitate users either. Magnet Pull is the same mechanic in a way and is very powerful and also very used. However it's for 1 type and it's pretty much the reason anyone uses Magnezone. It's very specific unlike Gothitelle who brainlessly destroys anything lacking damage and sometimes the rest of the team after that.

    dont spread false informations. Arena trap is not coded therefore noone is using dugtrio.

     

    If magnezone with magnet pull is very specific, gothitelle with shadow tag is too. The amount of pokemons it can trap is limited by its own stats and typing! Magnezone has a weaker version of shadow tag because it already has the best defensive typing.

    And the no-brain thing is because of calm mind. Calm mind makes Rest a reliable recovery because at +2 gothitelle doesnt care about the 2 sleep turns. So gothitelle gets to +6, than uses rest, waits 2 turns, kills the other pokemon while remaining 95% hp.

    gothitelle with chestorest and taunt does the same job as calm mind gothitelle (against haze milotic, calm mind slowbro or once it works unaware clefable even better) but will never be able to sweep a complete team. Imo that state would be comparable to magnezone's which is completely fine.

    And in PRO you don't even know your opponent's team before battle start unless you specifically know the player.

     

    the mechanic is the same as magnet pull or arena trap. The problem with Gothitelle isnt shadow tag its calm mind.

    Mew beats Blissey + Slowbro

    its not about beating its about challenging. Everyone knows the x beats y thing, but how many good players let pokemon y stay in when they have pokemon z in the team to handle x?

    You can build more teams around slowbro+blissey than around spdef mew+anything. And because of that u cant even pick mew as a counter because it may be useless against most of the teamcomps. And if u want to challenge slowbro+blissey with a stallbreaker there are ones that add more to a team. And i can say that because i have a calm mew with 70% of the relevent iv's.

     

    celebi can challenge slowbro's slot as a psychic type because the likes of blastoise, swampert, milotic, ... can fill the physical wall role while celebi can handle stuff like rain teams, hippowdon+excadrill, breloom and fighting types and adds offensive pressence. Nevertheless its still pressured by talonflame, staraptor, togekiss, weavile, bisharp, gengar or even tyranitar in sand.

     

    100 base stats look cool because u could use the pokemon in many different ways. But u most likely find another pokemon for that role with better typing or key stats. Additionally u cant change the legendary in PRO so there is no surprise after the first battle.

    In terms of competitive game, even if everyone was able to get a 20+ iv legendary, it would not be such a big change for PVP, as they are not overpowered pokes and they can be countered. In my opinion, it would actually bring some variety to the actual PVP meta, making combats more fun.

    I doubt that it would mix up anything. Else we would see all players with good ones spam them like hell. They are good to suprise an enemy from time to time but they arent good enough to be played consistently. And we are lacking content right now that would weaken them like pursuit, choice scarf.

    Jirachi and Mew are unable to challenge a Slobro+Blissey combo. Celebi could challenge Slowbro, but it struggles against to many of the current offensive pokemons.

    So u actually dont want to increase the amount of different pokemons played, just which pokemons are played at a certain time. That's changing nothing!!!

    PRO isnt LoL where a company wants u to play as many different champions as possible to maximize their chance to sell some skins. Additionally there is a PvE aspect in this game.

    balance always ends if a game offers enough variations to not get stale. Or can u give me the last patch notes for chess or texas hold'em?

    PRO needs the missing moves/abilities/items, the mega-evolutions for the weaker pokemons (like beedrill, ampharos, absol) and the next regions to get easier access to some pokemons like staraptor or bisharp
