We're aware of the issue. Unfortunately, I do not have a time frame for when you will be able to play PRO on a Mac again. Hopefully soon, but the Mac client is the most challenging client for Shane to build because he doesn't even own one.
Currently, XBox controllers are incompatible with PRO.
We hope to get them working in the future, but for now I'd suggest using just the mouse and keyboard.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with your starter. I wouldn't let that discourage you from playing, though. All Kanto starters are available in the wild, and I often see them in the trade chat.
The Mac client is currently unplayable.

Members receive:
50% more exp and twice as much money in battle.
The option to buy certain clothes/hats in-game which regular players cannot get.
They receive access to additional maps.
They also receive access to the Sevii Islands after becoming the Kanto Champion.
The purple question mark is a Pokemon that can only be found on that map if you have membership. These Pokemon are often from a different region than the one you're currently in.
Shiny rate is NOT affected by membership.
We typically don't release change logs for map changes. Minor map changes take place DAILY--oftentimes more than once.
We do, however, try to make a post whenever we have a client update to keep players somewhat updated on new additions to the game.
