Gold, and Silver (Gold is better btw) are actually run on real servers. Now I dont know what the hardware is that they are running. Servers can go down for many reasons. Sometimes they need to be "rolled back" Updated, restarted, etc. Its on a physical unit that can have many issues. Considering the amount of code/data that is on these servers its a wonder they are up period. Take a breath, count to ten, give me all you good pokemon, and relax.
