36994 Merse, i dont think you quite grasp what would need to be done here.

 

We have 148 tilesheets (at 256x1024 resolution)

More tiles get made and added every day.

 

We most certainly do not need to change from 2D to 3D. A 3D 'tile' doesnt exist. It would need to be a 3D object. Making a mesh for a building is completely different to simply drawing a flat plane object in PS/GIMP.

 

I did most of this tile system, so please i think i know somewhat what i am talking about.

 

As for improving the clarity of the current tiles, this will most likely happen, but slowly over the life of PRO, we have other more important things for the artists to be working on (NPCs and other bits). And as the only artist specifically assigned to making and maintaining the tile system i am making sure we have all the images needed for the mapping team to do what they do with the skills they have, before we update the quality of the ones we have.

 

Updating the clarity and sharpness of tiles will happen though, believe me.

But i heard Shane told me to make 3d in the future?, he told me when im in PC with him, i think we just need to change the .png file to .gif file, i see all gif image of gen 6 on web, or if u guys wanna have 2d like the moment just let them play 2d, make the 3d mod management for somebody wanna want to play 3d so they can download gif image n play for their own :v

Just to be clear about upgrading the game from 2d to 3d.

To create any ressource in 3d, juste multiply the time you need to create it in 2d by +- 3 ( sometimes even more ) it's as simple as that.

So i dont know how much time they spent to create the tiles but i don't think they'll waste so much effort for that.

What's the source of my informations ? Me, i'm actually on a vidéo game School, and believe me, the gap between creating a 2d and 3d ressource is just HUGE. Even the skill needed are different for each one.
