That would be the original size of the gif image, which can be misleading on previews part. However, try finding a smaller one or resize the current gif if you wish to make it smaller.

Both Android and Mac clients have issues with them, which have been addressed and being looked into. Both of them needs another client update which is hard to tell when it will happen. However, Mac users can use Copy + Paste as a solution to their chat issues.
