it works. As we dont have breeding the chance has been raised to 50% i believe, so yes, you were just unlucky. I dont know if it works when your first poke is fainted though...

HP is very easy, just go to ruins of alph and surf for woopers/quag all, day all night. ATK is also fairly easy, you can go to either MT.Mortar surf or Tohjo falls surf for seaking / goldeen / ploiwag. SP ATK route 6 surf surf during the day for psyduck / golduck and route 5 during the night for oddish / gloom.

just try to get decent stat poke to finish the story first. you will have plenty of time to catch and train epics after that.

i dont know about starter pokemon, but the pokemon obatined from "abandoned pokeballs" do have a chance to be shiny.

they are cheap anyway... can easily get one for 15-30k

kanto e4 is fairly easy. All you need is an alakazam/gengar/espeon that can outspeed ~lvl70 mega gengar and gyara or scizor to sweep. I beat e4 with a full team of 70s.

Does anyone know the requirements to be able to travel to trainers valley? What i know is that, once you have fulfilled the requirements you are able to travel to trainers valley using he train (like going from goldenrod to saffron or vice-versa, the train person offers you a 3rd option which is to travel to trainer's valley, for a fee of course). I know a few players who are able to go to trainers valley but none of them recall doing anything in particular to unlock it. This suggests that we maybe possibly need a certain number of pokedex data or evolved data to go there... if anyone knows for sure pls do say so here :s (PS: Theres nothing special at trainers valley yet, just a knock off tutor.)

I actually like the TMs the way they are. It creates a new market besides just searching for that "perfect" pokemon, which is good for an mmo. Maybe implement unlimited TMs as extremely difficult to obtain ingame items. Maybe as exclusive event prizes even.

if you have access to jhoto, go to mt mortar (near ecruteek). Surfing in there gets you only goldeen/seaking (i think theres poliwag there too now, but that gives atk too). dont really know kanto ev spots :/ https://www.pokemonrevolution.net/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=3275 this should help though

i would like to suggest that the battles be best of 3 as single elimination leaves too much room for the result of a battle to be decided by luck. best of 3 lets us employ a little more strategy and thinking as well. Just a suggestion, i'm entirely fine with single elimination if thats what you decide to keep it as.

this is exactly why we need the updater before sinnoh and hoenn. right now the game is still in a development state, and at least weekly updates are to be expected. Re=downloading the client is always going to be bigger than downloading only the update... i play plenty of online game and never have i found an installer that was exponentially larger than the game it self lol. always fewer than 50mb....
