You are correct, for the Hunting Contest the points are judged by evaluating the IVs, the Pokémon's Rarity Tier (Common, Uncommon, Rare), the Pokémon's Ability, it's Nature and if the Pokémon is a Form or Shiny. For the specific situation you described, the reason your Snivy may have gotten less points is because it has less IVs in general than your Alolan Vulpix and both have their Hidden Abilities. IVs, Nature and Ability are important factors while Form and Shiny add bonus points to the Pokémon. We hope the information provided will be helpful to you.
