There has to be a bug. And a visual bug in the same game. He switched a poke into stealth rocks which killed the poke and after that all enemy pokeballs were red like they are when all pokemon have died. Own tempo or regenerator. Own tempo wont let slowbro be confused. Its not as common in pvp because regen is superior. Do you know what the slowbros ability was?
