The beauty of pokemon is that there is no such thing as "best" playstyle. Every playstyle has its strengths and weaknesses. You pretty much have to find out what playstyle suits you the best. The Reveal Glass is tradeable, the mirror shards are not. You can find the mirror shards in every excavation site.

I was told only the normal form can learn moves at the moment, so my problem is kinda fixed I guess.

Yes you can get mirror shards from every excavation site. To get the Reveal glass to change form you have to turn in 10 mirror shards at the NPC in the Wondrous Site.

Been playing with friends since day one, havent had a problem doing so yet.

Yes thats correct, any fainted pokemon with the required level for the repel trick + your synch pokemon in the second slot.

Again, repel trick is not like that anymore as it got reverted already quite some time ago.
